Air Fryer Apple Chips

air fryer apple chips | GIRLS WHO EAT

These crunchy chips are the perfect midday snack. They use only 3 simple ingredients and can be made quickly in the air fryer! They are vegan, gluten free, and dairy free and take 15 minutes to prep and make.

The challenging part of this recipe is slicing the apples.

  • I highly recommend using a mandoline – either this handheld one or this standing one!
  • You want to try and get your apple slices to be as even in size as possible and as close to ⅛” thin as possible.
  • If you don’t have a mandoline, you can use a sharp knife

Tips:

  • Place sliced apples in a large mixing bowl and sprinkle cinnamon on a little at a time.  You can layer apples, sprinkle cinnamon and then layer apples again so they all get covered evenly.
  • A sprinkle of salt adds an extra layer of deliciousness so you can add that as well.
  • Do not use oil on these…there is no need and they come out crispy without it.
  • Your air fryer timing may vary from my timing.  It can be a bit of trial and error based on the type of air fryer you have and the thickness of your apple slices. You may need to add a few extra minutes if your slices are thicker.
  • Make sure to preheat your air fryer!
  • You need to add enough apple slices (at least 6-8) to the air fryer so that they are heavy enough to not fly around (I dealt with this first hand and might have set one on fire!).
  • You want to limit how many apples are layered on top of each other.
  • You want your apple chips to be fully cooked through and not wet when you remove them from the air fryer, but if they are not crispy but look done, that is okay. Set them aside and let them cool and crisp up!
  • I like to use sweeter apple variations for these like Honeycrisp, Gala or Fiji, but any variety will work.

Cooking & Baking Supplies

  • Air Fryer

Ingredients

  • 1 apple, sliced
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • sprinkle of salt

Instructions

  • Using a mandoline, slice apples into â…› inch thick slices (you want these to be as even as possible).
  • Place apples in a medium mixing bowl and sprinkle in cinnamon and salt. Use your hands to gently mix the cinnamon onto all apple slices and then add more apples to the bowl and sprinkle cinnamon and salt. Repeat this until all the apples have been seasoned. Be gentle as the apples can break easily.
  • Preheat your air fryer for 3 minutes at 360 degrees.
  • Layer the apple slices on the base of the air fryer, they can overlap slightly, but not fully. You want there to be enough apples in the air fryer to be heavy (aim for 6-8) so they do not fly around.
  • Cook the apples for 5 minutes at 360 degrees, then flip and cook for 4-5 minutes. You want apples to be cooked through, but it is okay if they are not crispy. See the tips above!
  • Remove the apples from the air fryer and set them on a plate. Let them cool and crisp up and then ENJOY!
