If you follow me on social media, then you know about my love affair with Bronny, my wonderful dog and companion.  So of course she deserves holiday treats this fall just like the rest of us so I decided to make her these pumpkin dog treats. She is very very fussy so I was pleasantly surprised when she did not turn her nose up at these and actually loved them.  Ready in less than an hour, these are great for your dog and make the perfect holiday treat for any four footed friends as well!

For this recipe, you will need:

  • Egg
  • Peanut Butter: make sure that this is just peanuts because some peanut butters have ingredients like xylitol that are toxic for your dog
  • Pumpkin Puree
  • Oat Flour: you can make your own by grinding oats in a blender
  • Cinnamon: this is optional
  • Rolling Pin
  • Baking Tray
  • Parchment Paper
  • Cookie Cutter: I used a bone shape but you can use whatever shape you have but your total cookie yield may vary

Tips:

  • Use extra flour for the rolling pin to egt it to roll over the dough more easily
  • You can also place another piece of parchment paper over the dough and roll out the dough (this will help with the dough sticking)
  • Always check with your vet about your specific dogs diet

How to Store:

  • Store in a sealed container at room temperature for 2 days or store in a sealed container in the refrigerator for up to one week

Cooking & Baking Supplies

  • Baking Tray
  • Parchment Paper

Ingredients

  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup peanut butter (ingredients should just be peanuts)
  • 1/3 cup pumpkin puree
  • 2-2 1/4 cups oat flour
  • sprinkle of cinnamon (optional)

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and line a baking tray with parchment paper.
  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk the egg, then add in peanut butter and pumpkin puree and mix until it’s a smooth consistency.
  • Add in a sprinkle of cinnamon and the oat flour. If you’re using homemade oat flour made from ground up oats, use 1 Âľ - 2 cups as it is a thicker consistency than store bought oat flour.
  • Use your hands to mix the flour into the dough. The dough should not be sticky so if you find that it is, add in more flour, 1 tablespoon at a time until it feels right.
  • Roll the dough into a large ball and place on a flat surface on top of a piece of parchment paper.
  • Using the rolling pin, roll out the dough until it is about ½ inch thick. Then, use your cookie cutter to cut out each cookie and place them on your baking tray lined with parchment paper. These can be placed close together since they do not rise or expand when baked.
  • Once you have cut out as many cookies as possible, take the leftover dough, knead it a bit and roll it out again and make more cookies. Do this until all of the dough is used up. Bake your treats for 15-18 minutes (until the base becomes a golden brown) on the bottom rack of your oven.
  • Remove from the oven and let cool. Then give to your pups to ENJOY!
