O-M-G. These black sesame bagels made with only 8 ingredients are the best things you will eat. They are light, airy, and taste like a challah bagel. Also, they are prepped in less than 10 minutes, so you can be eating these in 20 minutes. I love to eat them as a breakfast sandwich with some avocado, eggs, and spinach or with almond butter and berries or figs! Plus they are vegetarian, gluten free, and refined sugar free, but you won’t even notice.
Black sesame is a little super seed that is packed with amazing health benefits. They are a healthy fat that helps with energy and also contains iron, calcium and magnesium. They add a delicious crunch to the top of the bagel and I used Three Trees Black Sesame milk in the bagel too (which is my latest obsession and slightly sweetened with dates)! If you use milk with no sweetener in it, you might want to add an extra ½ tsp of maple syrup.
These will make 5 small bagels. I suggest you store them in the refrigerator and toast them before you want to eat them. They will last for up to 3 days!
Substitution Ideas:
- Eggs: to make these vegan, you can substitute with a flax egg instead (2 tbsp flax mixed with 5 tbsp water, let it sit in the refrigerator for 5-10 minutes and stir occasionally)
- Maple Syrup: can use honey instead
- Black Sesame Seeds: you can top with white sesame seeds, everything seasoning, or leave plain!
