cherry chocolate smoothie | GIRLS WHO EAT

This easy morning breakfast smoothie recipe is packed with fiber and vitamin C from the cherries, which are also high in antioxidants and have anti-inflammatory properties.  Add your ingredients into a blender and in 5 minutes or less, you have a delicious smoothie. Top with extra hemp seeds (or any seed) for added protein and crunch. You can also have this vegan smoothie for an afternoon snack and pick me up!

For this recipe, you will need:

  • Cherries: you can use frozen cherries, which you can find at the grocery store or use fresh cherries, which are easier to find when in season (May-September)
  • Hemp Seeds: these add protein to the smoothie, but you can also substitute almonds or any other chia seeds
  • Plant Based Milk: use any if your favorite nut or seeds milks, but check the label to make sure it doesn’t have unnecessary added sugar, gums, or flavors
  • Cacao Powder: this adds a wonderful chocolate flavor and is another great source of antioxidants
  • Date: this sweetens the smoothie just slightly
  • Salt

Tips:

  • Enjoy this as a smoothie in a cup or as a smoothie bowl, which you can add all the toppings to
  • Mix up your toppings by adding coconut flakes, cacao nibs, or sliced almonds
