This was my first time making salmon burgers, which I topped with a vegan avocado crema. I was honestly shocked with how easy both were to make. These are a great protein staple to have for dinner and this recipe made enough so I used the leftovers to put over my salad the next day! I made these burgers dairy free and gluten free and once cooked they were crispy on the outside and nice and soft on the inside.
The main prep you will need to do for this is to cook the salmon, but while it bakes in the oven, you can make the avocado crema and chop your shallots. You can easily pair these burgers with a traditional bun or a lettuce “bun” and I suggest eating it with roasted or air fryer Japanese yams or potatoes and some sort of roasted veggie.
I used Sizzlefish salmon (code GIRLSWHOEAT for 15% off your online order) for these and love how they are sustainably sourced. These are really some of the freshest pieces of salmon I’ve found and always have a bunch of pieces stored in my freezer. I am a regular salmon eater over here because it’s a great source of protein, packed with healthy fats, and high in omega-3’s and other vitamins!
Substitution ideas:
- Lime: could do lemon instead
- Shallot: could also do a red onion or white onion
- Dill: can use cilantro or dried dill
- Olive Oil (in Crema): can do 3 tbsp of water instead

- 1/8 cup olive oil
- 1 tbsp fresh dill
- 1 tbsp water
- salt to taste
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375 degrees and line a baking dish with parchment paper.
- Coat the salmon with a little olive oil, salt, and pepper.
- Cook the salmon for 15-18 minutes, until fully cooked through. Then remove the salmon from the oven and let cool.
- While the salmon cools, chop your shallot and place all avocado sauce ingredients (avocado, lime, garlic clove, olive oil, dill, water, salt) into a high speed blender or food processor and blend until smooth.
- Put sauce in a bowl and place in the refrigerator.
- Once the salmon is cool, remove the salmon from the skin and place the salmon in a medium mixing bowl. Mash salmon into small pieces using a fork, then add in almond flour, egg, shallot, lime juice) and mix well.
- Heat up a medium pan or 9’’ skillet over medium heat and add oil (olive or avocado is best) and make sure it covers the entire base of the pan.
