Healthy Berry Oat Bowl

berry oat bowl | GIRLS WHO EAT

There is just something so comforting about a warm oat bowl for breakfast. I wake up craving these often and oats pair perfectly with a morning coffee, matcha, or tea! The best part of making these bowls is they are super quick to put together so if you wake up starving like I do, then you know you will be eating something in just a few minutes.

This berry oat bowl has been on constant rotation over here because it’s so freaking good! It’s loaded with berries which are high in antioxidants that can help boost your immune system and a splash of maca, a Peruvian plant that has a butterscotch like taste and is a superfood. Maca helps to increase energy, improve mood, and improve memory!

When it comes to oats, I am a  big fan of using Purely Elizabeth superfood oat blends because they have your oats, but then additional healthy ingredients like chia and flax seeds! They can be bought in single serve or in a bag that should last you multiple oat bowls!

The other secret to an amazing oat bowl is adding in a mashed banana because it adds extra fluff and texture. It’s best to use a very ripe banana like the ones with the brown speckles, so the perfect way to use up any bananas is about to go bad!

Substitution ideas:

  • Maple Syrup: you could use honey or coconut sugar instead
  • Berries: these are optional as a mix in
  • Maca Powder: you can leave this out entirely or could use cocoa powder to give it a more chocolatey flavor
  • Toppings: I love to top my bowls with either granola, nut butter, dairy free yogurt, peaches, caramelized bananas, apples, and coconut
