Make Your Own Almond Butter

almond butter | GIRLS WHO EAT

Almond butter can get expensive and also many of the ones you find on the grocery shelves are full of refined sugars and inflammatory oils, which is not necessary at all.  To save some money and know what is in your almond butter, you can make your own. The best part is you can keep it plain, or add in your favorite add-ins like cinnamon or maple syrup!

For this recipe, you will need:

Almonds: use raw unroasted and unsalted almonds

Salt

Cinnamon: this is optional, but adds a delicious flavor

Maple Syrup: this is optional and only if you want a hint of sweetness in your maple syrup. It’s best to use pure maple syrup to be the most nutrient dense and cleanest option

Tips:

  • After you roast your almonds, let them cool for at least 10 minutes but blend them warm because the oils are released and that is what will help to make the almond butter
  • If your food processor starts to get hot, let it cool down before using it again
  • You will need to scrape down the sides of the food processor multiple times until you reach that creamy deliciousness and the butter will go through various stages before it gets to be a smooth nut butter
  • Patience is your friend with this – it takes a some time to have the almonds go from whole to flour to a smooth butter, the longer you blend, the runnier the almond butter will beRemove the mixture from the food processor and store in a sealed glass storage container and ENJOY!

How to Store:

  • Store in a sealed airtight container in the pantry for up to 2 weeks or in the fridge for up to one month
