These air fryer onion rings took a few tries to get right, but they were worth the tests! They use 4 simple ingredients excluding spices and are ready in less than 10 minutes in your air fryer. They are nice and crispy on the outside and sweet on the inside. A perfect appetizer or side dish! These are not greasy, or oily and won’t make you feel bleh after you’ve had them like traditional onion rings.
For this recipe, you will need:
- Yellow Onion: I suggest using this kind of onion as it’s a sweeter variety
- Breadcrumbs: I make mine own by toasting up a piece of older sourdough bread and putting it in the food processor until it becomes bread crumbs
Tips:
- Use one hand for dipping the onions into the egg and the other to dip the egg coated onion into the breadcrumb mix. You want to leave your onion in the egg coating for 10 seconds to get it fully coated so the breadcrumbs will stick
- You want your onions to be thick and circular
- Substitution: you can use gluten free breadcrumbs instead
- Dip your cooked onion rings in ketchup or enjoy plain
