make your own gatorade | GIRLS WHO EAT

People drink Gatorade to restore electrolytes and stay hydrated, but have you ever read the ingredient label? It’s packed with awful ingredients that include refined sugar, food dye, and so many other lab made ingredients that harm our health.

So I decided to try and make my own healthy and clean version.  This recipe uses coconut water as the base which is packed with electrolytes and is super hydrating, tart cherries, which are full of antioxidants, fresh lemon juice, salt (another electrolyte) and honey. All nutrient dense ingredients that will hydrate you and replenish your body with real. The drink takes no more than 5 minutes to make and is such a healthier alternative so give it a try next time you need to hydrate or for a workout!

For this recipe, you will need:

Coconut Water: Always check the ingredients when you buy this to make sure that it is 100% coconut water with nothing extra added in (sometimes brands add in sugar)

Tart Cherry: Always check the ingredients when you buy this to make sure that it is 100% tart cherry juice. I got this one at Whole Foods

Honey: local or raw honey are my first choices and you can usually find them at your farmer’s markets or local grocery store

Salt: I recommend Redmond Real Salt, one of the best clean salt options

Lemon Juice

Tips:

  • Honey and lemon juice are optional
  • You can use another antioxidant rich juice instead of tart cherry like blueberry juice
  • You can use maple water instead of coconut water which has natural electrolytes and antioxidants

How to Store:

  • You should drink this right away but you can store in the fridge for 2-3 days but make sure and give it a shake before you drink it
