This tomato jam recipe is a sweet and tangy spread that is made by cooking fresh tomatoes with some pantry staple spices and honey for sweetness.ย Itโs a great option to make when tomatoes are in season since you can find them at most grocery stores, farmers markets, and even in your own garden! This dish can be stored in the freezer, so itโs a great meal prep option to add flavor to so many dishes.
For this recipe, you will need:
- Tomatoes: use any types of tomatoes, just keep the quantity the same
- Cinnamon
- Salt
- Apple Cider Vinegar: you can substitute with any mild vinegar like rice vinegar or use a local small batch vinegar from your local natural grocery store or farmerโs market
- Honey: raw honey is ideal
- Ginger: I recommend using fresh ginger for maximum flavor
- Lemon Juice
Tips:
- Using fresh tomatoes is best so shop your local farmerโs market in season if you can. If you donโt have fresh tomatoes, you can use canned, but try to find one with the least amount of added ingredients (ideally just tomatoes and salt)
- Ways to use this: spread on toast with eggs, as a sauce in burgers instead of ketchup, on grilled cheese sandwiches, or on top of grilled fish
- If you want this to be sweeter, add a bit more honey and if you want this a bit tangier, add a bit more vinegar
- Add a sprinkle of cayenne pepper or a small amount of diced jalapenos if you want your jam to have a kick
How to Store:
- Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.ย You can also freeze the jam by storing it in a freezer safe container for up to 2 months.
